Hand on Healing

Ringo is a rope horse that has a stifle problem. He is here for healing. He is responding well to the treatments. I am using laser to treat the acupuncture points. Most importantly I am doing the hand on healing for him. When I am done he licks and chews and really shows his appreciation in so many ways. Stay tuned for how he comes along. Rosanna has started her show career by going to the shows and looking it over! Saturday she will get a practice work again. this will be number 4. She was a little upset by all the happenings the first few times. We are planning on starting off next year with a bang. I have a new horse in to do my hands on healing Ringo is his name. You will be hearing more about him in the coming months. His second treatment was today and there was a lot of licking and chewing!

This is so unusual for Texas to have 9 degrees at my ranch this morning! I have been breaking ice all morning for the livestock. Seems like we will have a couple of more days of this. I have my wood stove going and am working out of the house since the heat pump in my office is blowing cold air. hope all of you are staying warm.

My phone problems of the last few months are finally behind me. Apparently the gophers have been eating through a cable that was sub standard. It has been replaced and everything is working like new.

Rosanna is now 4 years old according to the AQHA. She is coming along very nicely in her training. She has developed an attitude toward the other horses at feeding time. Other than that she is working cattle well and almost to the point I don't have to help her so much with her turns. I am looking forward the the day she is finished.

I trust all of you had a very happy new years eve. I feel sure 2011 will be a very prosperous year for all of us. I think we are coming out of the woods with our economy. when you spend 8 years burying us in debt it takes some doing to get us back on track! My year started off with a horse show and that always is fun. My older mare Molly did very well for me. Riding Rosanna has made me a better rider!. I will be posting some pictures of them soon.

It is always amazing to me how the angels bring the right person at just the right time! I am getting my soon to be 6 year old mare x-ray next week so a really good farrier can see what we can do to get her sound enough to ride! I can't wait. Wow! new record set in Ft. Worth. Lloyd Cox of Colorado marked a 230 in the open finals.

How about Sheri Cervi in the barrel racing!!! what an incredible horse Stingray is and what a great competitor Sheri is. She just said I tried too hard in the last round. Never once did she blame her horse. she is a lesson in how to ride a great horse. Congratulations to them both. Tie down roper Tuf Cooper rode the nicest horse there. 18 year old Roanie. I have read for her for 10 years she was terrific. Last but by no means least was Willy the great 24 year old bulldogging horse. He won his final round. what a way to retire.

Rosanna is mending from her puncture wound. I have been wrapping it with castor oil and all the swelling is out of it. I hope to start back riding her next week after the NCHA futurity is over with. Pictures of her soon.

Rosanna has had a run of little problems. Yesterday it was the left hind leg. I thought she had a return of her abscess. It turned out to be a puncture wound. Vet did an ultra sound to see if something was in the fetlock. Dodged another bullet he said just wrap it and keep her from running too much. Good luck with that as a three year old! I kept hearing popping in her walk and he tells me it is common in young horses. Maybe next week we can resume our riding schedule. And all this just when she was really turning the corner.

Wow! there have been some interesting comments to the April newsletter. Here is one from New York. "Well I suppose I've been poisoning my animals for all these years. I am switching to organic feed for both my horses and the geese. I have switched my cats to a grain -free dry food and will be switching their wet food to grain free as well. My cats love the gravy in their wet food , but it contains wheat gluten, which means GMO." This person has been feeding what she thought was the best food on the market. Their answer when she asked--"we do not know" there is no classification regarding whether they are GMO-derived or not.
I will be better about posting this year. Now that my filly Rosanna that I am training is out of the boring stage and is working live cattle it will be more fun to post her progress.

Time flies by! I have ridden Rosanna now 10 times. She continues to do very well. She is quiet to saddle and ride. I have her neck reining so far and she is understanding the concept of a leg yield. We are still just trotting and walking for now since she is not strong enought yet to do much loping. I am having a blast with her. this is Rosanna on the right.

Yesterday was my first ride on Rosanna. The day before we took her on trails steep hills, over logs, and cavalettis. My first ride was not that exciting. We just trotted and walked in the pasture but she was fantastic. I just used a side pull since my snaffles are all too large for her. We are going to continue our suppling exercises this coming week and get to know each other. I am having a blast so stay tuned.

Rosanna has a mind of her own and a bit of a temper. That was no surprise to me! The second day of being ridden brought out her stubborn side. She decided to throw herself on the ground not once but twice. Once when asked to go forward and once when asked to back up. Marty her rider made her stay on the ground for a few minutes each time and since then has not created a problem. I saw her today and she is going both directions without a problem. I think in about 2 more weeks she will come home and we will start her training together. I am very excited!

After doing the basic ground work with Rosanna over the past few weeks I decided to send her to a man who does the easy braking type of training i.e. Dennis Reis or Clinton Anderson. This morning was her first lesson. Marty did all the basic ground work and desensitizing first then introduced some front hobbles. There was very little resistance from Rosanna. He followed this with saddling her from both sides which did scare her a tiny bit. After the saddle was secure on her back he asked her to lunge. She did a couple of rounds mildly bucking then settled in to her circle going left. She did not buck at all going left. Then Marty mounted and after a minute or two of finding her balance he urged her forward. She broke into a nice trot and when asked she loped she was able to do this both directions Very impressive for her first day! It was a lot for her to absorb but when we put her back in her turn out she just went to her hay pile and began eating. I don't think she will have to stay long there. Stay tuned!

Rosanna has learned to flex right and left and give to her hind quarters and fore quarters this week. Next week she will start her lunging. I will be posting pictures of her along the way. She learned at a week old to lead and load in the trailer but we will be doing refreshers on that soon.

It occurred to me as I am recovering from dental surgery how important that aspect of health is. I have been seeing a specialist for a bone graft and extraction. I am on the road to a full recovery. So why is it that the State of Oklahoma has a rogue vet trying to stop all the certified equine dentists from working in Oklahoma? Insecurity maybe! Most veterinarians do not even like doing dentistry. It is time consuming and not very profitable. So why the hefty fines? $15,000 against the person doing the work and $5,000 for the property owner. This too is a speciality that takes more training than the half day devoted to it in medical school. They have already jailed a dentist and fined him. They are now after herbalists, massage therapists, chiropractors and other alternative health care givers. If you live in Oklahoma contact your state representatives. Be on the look out for similar actions in other states. Let's band together and keep free enterprise alive and well.

I have saved my computer with the help of a very talented guru. I had a melt sown on Tuesday and we are up and going again tonight. It was not the conficker worm but Microsoft update that caused the problem. Seems it happened on the 12th of March so all of you out there might want to check your computers for the same thing.

Please don't worry over the stock market. Most ordinary people are not in the market. I believe that the government is causing this situation. They re trying to drive people back into the market. I would not do that at this time. The market will not recover for about 5-8 years. Just keep a positive attitude about life and have faith that God is in control and we will continue to live a happy life.

What a Weekend

My angels have been telling me for a couple of months to be careful getting on my show mare. Well last weekend I was mounting and something spooked a very quiet horse and she jumped sideways catching my toe in the stirrup. I kicked it loose but in doing so I fell backward and hit my head on the ground and almost knocked myself out! I was a ditsy blond for a day or two but have fully recovered. I just wish they had told me what day it was going to happen. Stay safe out there! And listen to your angels.

Mexico was beautiful. I did quite a few readings for people there and found it interesting that so many Americans live full time in San Miguel De Allende. They are planning to bring me back as part of a Mexican cooking seminar. Sounds like fun. Ft. Worth was an experience. Even though I had shown there before this time was different. I raised this filly and when she did not make it in the open I switched horses since the gelding had colicked the week before. I had only ridden her 5 times before we showed. She was outstanding for me but I let her down with some mental errors. We sat on the bubble for part of the next day but got bumped out in the end. I was very proud of her for a 3 year old she took the big arena very well. I am looking forward to a prosperous 2009 with her. Thanks to all of you who came out to watch and those who didn't get to but watched on webcast or where ever. I could feel your support and good wishes. Have a very Merry Christmas.

Time Change in Ft. Worth

On Friday the 28th my filly will be showing between 2-3:30PM. I made a mistake when counting cattle changes. My amateur horse had a bout with colic this week but is on the mend. Apparently the temperature changes stressed him out to the point he got sick. Watch your horses with the coming cold front.

Molly my show mare won a buckle this past weekend. We have been trying so hard to come back after I broke my back in 2005. El Campo

Last Sunday was spent in El Campo Texas working with the 4-H kids and parents. I think the fund raiser put some much needed capital into their fund. We had 20+ horses to read and some people too. It was a great day for me for sure. The kids are so positive and want to learn so much. They are fun to be with. There is a possibility I will be in Athens on the 25th for a barrel race. Keep you posted on that one.

Last weekend I attended a fundraiser for Storm Harbor Equestrian center. They help handicapped kids to ride. Even with the economy they reached their goals. They will continue to serve the community and the kids. Americans are the most generous people on earth. It was great to see the people, horses and some of the kids that benefit from the wonderful work Storm Harbor does.
I am going to El Campo Texas this Sunday to give a seminar for the kids in the local 4-H. I will let you know what happens.

Just got word from a friend today that her parents rode out the storm over the weekend. They have been taking care of their neighborhood in Louisiana. If you can offer help it would be a good idea. Even the help of sending feed and supplies to our animals that are stricken is such a blessing they can not fend for themselves. Many are lost because they are afraid and just start running in panic. Visit the lost pet websites to offer help to those in need. Keep all of them in your prayers.

Now that I have caught up from being gone I thought you would like to know how the riding seminar went. This was the idea of a long time client in Ohio. All four days were well attended. the horses were very talkative and gave some much needed help to their riders. There were riders of all ages and one very good male rider that was the husband of one of my hosts. I had a great time. Now what kind of arrogance does it take to pull a horse off of drugs that he has been on for all of his race life RIGHT BEFORE the biggest race of their lives. Just to prove he could do it without them when probably all the rest of the horses were on them! In addition to having a bad front foot. Either that or Duttrow is just plain stupid. This horse was supposed to win the Triple Crown. We still have free will and can change the outcome of events in our lives. Here is a perfect example. Say some prayers for Big Brown and Duttrow.

I am now a grand mother for the very first time. It was amazing! I attended the birth of Reese Lauren in Austin, Texas on May 9, 2008. Mother and daughter are doing great in spite of the fact that Reese was 5 weeks early. I will post pictures when she is out of the ICU.

Purina Feed Recall

This just came to me via email. Purina has issued two massive recalls this month affecting almost their entire horse feed product line. This recall was not made available to the general public. Notices went to the dealers directly. It is unconscionable that they have made not effort to contact the end users. On 4/9/2008 they recalled 27 equine products, including senior and the platform line. On 4/21/2008 they recalled another 18 products. The problem is Aflatoxins. Aflatoxins are toxic and one of the most carcinogenic substances know. They can cause liver disfunction, immune suppression and neurological difficulties. Please pass this on to anyone you know with horses.

I have a new piece to my website. It is a forum so that you can post questions and have them answered in a reasonable amount of time. This is not for free readings but a way to answer questions about what is going on in the world such as who is going to be president. I was driving to ride among the wild flowers today and had a fly over by air force one near Crawford Texas. It was scary since the huge plane cast a shadow over my truck and trailer and was only flying about 100 feet high. I guess they do this 24/7 while our president is at the ranch. I decided to just come back home.

Wow! the weather is crazy. Stand by for a hot dry summer. Possibly fires out west. Even with the cost of fuel I think lots of people will be hitting the road for some fun with their horses. I am trying to get to Nebraska for the may cattle branding season with a friend. Sound like it could be fun but probably hot there too. I love the warm weather but not every one does. Made the Finals

Houston Livestock Show was a huge success for me this year. We made the finals for the first time in about 8 years! When I looked down to take off my chaps lots of dirt fell off my hat. That is how much dirt my mare Molly was throwing in the air. She also was working so hard she put herself out of alignment. We are getting that fixed on Monday.

Leap of Faith

What a trip I had to Costa Rica over the weekend. I took a canopy tour that involved hanging in a harness and sailing through the air on a cable from tree to tree. At one point the guide said do you want to fly like superman? Of course I said yes and it was amazing! He was in control of the trip and I had to just trust that he would stop us before I hit the tree. In that one short five minute time I got over my writers block and back in touch with who really is in control of all our lives. What an amazing place and wonderful people. It is like Mexico was 30 years ago.

Riding Clinic

I will be out of the office January 17th & 18th. I will be sending out my new newsletter the week of the 21st of January. I am excited to be back on line with all of you. FYI I will be in Gonzales at the Jr. Hi-School finals in June of this year. I am in the planning stages of a riding clinic prior to the event in Gonzales. Stay tuned for latest developments.

I am finally up and going again with my newsletter. After much expense and a big learning curve. I am happy to report that I will be sending out a newsletter monthly again. I have been doing that all of last year but they were being captured by the phone company. For any of you that haven't seen the updated website please have a look.

I will be out of the office the 17th & 18th of January but you can go to the order page to sign up for sessions. I am planning more in person readings this year since I had so much fun at the World barrel finals in Waco. Stay tuned for more dates. Have a great weekend.

New Web Page

I have a new web page after 10 years of the old one. It is spectacular and much easier to navigate. Now I am working on getting my newsletter out to all of you. It seems that my phone company is blocking them and I didn't know it. Bear with me and all will be back up in a few days. It has been a quiet time here for the holidays. I have actually had time to get some projects done I haven't had time for. My broodmare is doing great and I am expecting another dynamite baby this March.

I am also planning on being in Gonzales in June for the Jr. High Schools Finals Rodeo. Please give me a call and get on my schedule to see your horses in person.

Lost Dogs!!!
As the New Years holiday draws near please remember to put your beloved dogs in a safe place from fireworks. Every year I get more and more calls that a dog went missing during this event. The holidays also brings out dog nappers. They are looking for extra money for the holidays. Just give them a reward and get your dog back! If something does happen your free to call and I will do all I can to recover them for you. Have a Blessed Holiday Season!

I have had an interesting couple of weeks. A cutting horse trainer from Australia was here and we spent the time in Ft. Worth Texas at the futurity. We saw record sales and I met people from all over the world this year. I sat next to a couple from France. Our performance horses sure make the world seem better and smaller. The trainer(Les) has a new perspective on the horses that I quite liked. For him it is very simple they just need to be a cow horse they will take care of the rest.
I am making plans to do a one day seminar in Gonzales during the State Jr. High Wrangler Division finals in June of 2008. Any one who wants an in person appointment needs to let me know early. I was swamped in Waco in November, BUT that is always a good thing.

Donkeys

Did you know that donkeys can give horses lung worms? They are very hard to detect. You can use ivermectin or Protoproof from Horse Power herbs. They are very common in young horses. Although donkeys help keep the Coyotes away they come with problems.

Pigeon Fever

Did you know that pigeon fever is at epidemic levels in California and has spread to Arizona? It can be deadly for horses. Take it seriously and treat your pastures to clean them up. Keep all utensil's, buckets, boots, pitchforks and all barn equipment sanitary. Lots of Clorox. You can treat the horses with herbs and antibiotics an they can make a full recovery. The help of a good veterinarian is essential.

The fires in California are hurting more than just people. I had a client last week whose dog is suffering anxiety at coming home to southern California from Washington. He hurts when the family touches him anywhere on his body and he wants to go back to Washington state. He was a rescue from a fire of this kind before. The family can't leave because all the roads are closed to traffic. Please say some prayers for all the animals in the inferno.

The earth is shifting on its axis and that is causing all the unusual weather patterns. It has happened before in our past. Where there are deserts there was once oceans. Check it out for your selves.

Home From Down Under

Australia was wonderful this year except for the Equine Influenza out break which was unheard of in Australia. So the horse industry is basically shut down until 2008. It is a $90,000 fine to bring in vaccines from out of the country.
